Baldur's Gate 3 introduces a unique twist in a pair of weapons that serves as a source of inspiration for future games. While the game is renowned for its inventive ideas, especially in terms of player freedom and quest design, one might not expect such innovation in the realm of weapons, gear, and equipment. Typically drawn from Dungeons & Dragons' Fifth Edition, these systems adhere closely to established mechanics without offering many surprises, and Baldur's Gate 3's adaptation maintains a close resemblance to its DnD roots.

However, the game has managed to sneak in its own captivating weapon mechanic, often overlooked by the majority of players. While not an entirely novel concept, having appeared in classic adventure games and even in one of BG3's fellow Game of the Year contenders, its implementation in Baldur's Gate 3 presents a distinct approach. Two weapons, the Vision of the Absolute and the Masterwork Weapon, require players to assemble them from various scattered parts across Act One's maps. This mechanic pays homage to the common practice in classic point-and-click adventure games, where broken pieces of vital quest items are discovered. These fragments typically cannot function independently and need to be combined to unlock additional areas or acquire other essential items. In the expansive world of Baldur's Gate 3, this mechanic takes on a fresh and unique character.
