While Baldur's Gate 3 has successfully made its way to PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, a notable concern has emerged, leading to substantial progress losses for players on specific platforms. Initially launched on PC in August 2023 following an extensive early access phase, the console porting process, especially for the Xbox version, faced significant delays. The Xbox release occurred on December 7 of the same year, and despite the game's grand scope and ambition, certain issues persist, particularly for some console iterations.

Despite the relatively swift port to the PS5, with the PlayStation version appearing just over a month after the initial PC launch, the Xbox port encountered substantial delays. The development challenges associated with adapting the game for the less powerful Xbox Series S contributed to the prolonged wait, ultimately unveiling itself as a surprise release at The Game Awards 2023, where BG3 claimed the prestigious Game of the Year title.

Regrettably, despite its availability on Xbox, players continue to grapple with significant save issues unique to this platform. Unlike other versions, Baldur's Gate 3 on the Xbox Series X/S presents a risk of losing multiple hours of progress each time players exit the game. Larian Studios acknowledged the problem in a post on X (formerly Twitter), attributing the save data loss to an Xbox firmware issue. Despite early recognition of the problem and several Xbox players reporting lost progress, a fix has yet to be implemented, partly due to reduced work capacity during the holidays, as communicated by Larian.
