In the realm of fighting games and arena brawlers inspired by beloved Shonen anime and manga, it's easy for fans to assume that all major franchises have made their way into English-language video games. However, one significant title that has been overlooked until now may soon receive its first localized game: Hunter x Hunter. Shonen, a widely recognized manga and anime category in the West known for its extravagant battles and heroic escapades, has proven to be a great fit for video game adaptations. Most major series, especially those featured in Shonen Jump, have successfully reached English-speaking audiences. Unfortunately, Hunter x Hunter, a hit in the Shonen Jump lineup, has never seen a video game released outside of Japan.

The enduring classic, Dragon Ball, has been transformed into various genres, from 2D fighting games like Dragon Ball FighterZ to asymmetrical multiplayer combat in Dragon Ball: The Breakers. One Piece, the world's best-selling comic series, marked its English-translated turn-based JRPG debut last year with One Piece Odyssey. Even newer titles such as Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen have enjoyed Western game releases, while ongoing epics like My Hero Academia and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure continue to captivate audiences. Surprisingly, Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter x Hunter, a Shonen Jump series steadily gaining popularity in English territories, has yet to see a single video game translated for international release.
